Packing For A Year In Madrid, Spain

For those of you who don’t know, I leave in 10 days to study abroad in Madrid, Spain. I will be gone for a full academic year – almost 10 months! The first semester I will be studying Spanish in preparation for the second semester which requires me to take all my business classes in Spanish. Yes, marketing and management classes in Español!

I currently don’t speak very good Spanish. I’m not even sure what I do can be considered speaking Spanish. It better fits into the category of “Spanglish”: a bad combination of English and Spanish that mostly relies on hand gestures. This starting point makes taking business classes in Spanish in only a few short months very ambitious. So please, take a moment to pray for me, send good vibes my way, or whatever you typically do for people that are about to do something ridiculous and crazy with their lives.

Just as ambitious as taking business classes in Spanish: packing my life into 2 suitcases. This has been a multi-step process.
Step 1: Pack up everything I’m definitely not taking into boxes
Step 2: Lay out what’s left over and attempt to fit it into 2 suitcases (can be seen to the left)
Step 3: Realize that there is no way all that stuff will fit into two suitcases
Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the suitcases can just barely zip shut

I am currently stuck in round 3 of sorting through everything and trying to prioritize all of my personal belongings… I think I need some professional help.

  1. there is no question whatsoever in my mind. You will do very well in Spanish or ANY language
because your assets (curiosity, intellect, drive) are fully portable. DM
